After recording artist Drake saw a special on “World News with Diane Sawyer” that focused on one of the most dangerous high schools in America, Philadelphia’s own Strawberry Mansion — he decided he needed to give back in some way.
During a taping of an ABC News special, he visited the students of Strawberry Mansion High School and announced that within the next few months a new recording studio will be built in the school
“In the next few months I’m building a recording studio inside your school,” Drake told the students. “This about you. This about your principal. This about your future. I love you. I care about you. I want to see you succeed.”
Along with the new recording studio, he also gave all the students tickets to his Philadelphia show followed with transportation to and from the concert. Tis’ the season of giving and he surely did give. I know in that very moment he inspired and provided so much hope for all of the students he reached out to. With Kevin Hart recently donating new computers to the Philadelphia School District and now Drake giving back, it’s nice to know that these students aren’t forgotten. This upcoming school year will be providing lots more opportunities for these students did not have access to before.
It’s upsetting to see comments on other blogs of people bashing Drake for donating a recording studio. Many believe he should have done something else with his money for the school district but what those people fail to realize is that he isn’t required to do anything. So many people are quick to criticize rather than just appreciating. To many of these students, this event will probably be the highlight of their entire life. I applaud Drake for his generosity. Who knows, the next big artist could come out of that very studio.
